Accord document samples

A Liquor Accord document formalises the principles of the members. It forms a voluntary agreement between licensees, council, police, health, and other stakeholders or Accord members.   It in no way substitutes, or directly impacts on the normal liquor licensing enforcement and development approval processes. Licensees are still required to proceed through normal development approval processes for any new or changed licensing conditions.

The document should be used to coordinate local business practices to meeting the objectives of the agreed Accord strategies.

The principles of the Accord should be reviewed on an on-going basis and reflect:

The two documents provided below have been developed by members of the Valley Alcohol Management Partnership (VAMP) and Liquor Industry Consultative Association (LICA). They may provide a useful reference for members of new Liquor Accords when developing their own Liquor Accord document.

The "Think the Drink" program was developed and launched by the Goondiwindi Liquor Accord.

It provides alcohol awareness and RSA training to all year 12 students in Goondiwindi and Boggabilla areas.

The project not only educates future patrons of licensed premises about expected behaviour levels in bars, pubs and clubs, obligations of staff and patrons, information about standard drinks and intoxication levels, but it also opens the way for future employment opportunities for the students.

100% of year 12 participants recommended that all school leavers in Australia should participate in the program.

The Liquor Licensing Division has identified the significant benefits of Liquor Accords in resolving liquor-related issues in local areas, and has recognised the advantages of programs such as the "Think the Drink" campaign in the liquor industry.

On 1 November 2007, Liquor Licensing Division's Executive Director, Mr Chris Watters, launched the program Statewide, and the Division encourages all Liquor Accords to adopt this program within their existing framework for 2008 school leavers.
