Indigenous communities are subject to alcohol restrictions under Alcohol Management Plans developed by Community Justice Groups but sly grogging (selling liquor without a licence) is an ongoing problem.
Sly groggers take advantage of others and make a lot of money breaking the law. But anybody, inside and outside of Indigenous communities, can help stop them. You can do this by anonymously reporting anyone selling sly grog by calling the Sly Grog Hotline on 1800 500 815.
Under the Liquor Act 1992, the penalties for sly grogging are severe (fines up to $37,500 for a first offence and $75,000 for a third offence).
