Special conditioning for licensed premises

Special conditioning exists for licensed premises located within a few hours drive of Indigenous communities and convenient for residents to purchase alcohol to take back to their community.

Four basic conditions have been imposed on most licensed premises situated in catchment areas near Indigenous communities. These conditions are:

no alcohol sales to taxi drivers who are acting as a third party
no licensee to hold a patron's bank access cards
a ban on the sale of pre-mixed spirits in containers exceeding two litres and all other liquor in containers exceeding four litres
a ban on the sale of fortified wines in glass flagons

These conditions do not apply in Cairns, Townsville and Mt Isa because of practical difficulties in conditioning all licensed premises in these large cities.

In consultation with licensees, the Liquor Licensing Division has imposed stricter licence conditions on the following licensed premises:

For the purpose of the following conditions, a single container means a single bottle, can, cask or other single receptacle and not a number of single containers packaged together such as a carton.
