Under the Liquor Act 1992 licensed restaurants can offer patrons a BYO option at the licensee's discretion.
It’s recommended that you phone the premises and check if BYO is permitted to avoid any embarrassment or confusion on arrival. You should also ask about any corkage charges that may apply at either a licensed or BYO restaurant.
Some licensed restaurants may also allow BYO on certain liquor only, such as bottled wine.
A liquor licence is not required to run a BYO restaurant but operators may need to apply for a permit from their local government authority.
